Lighting that
moves with you.

There are three honest ways to make a light smart, and they suit different houses. A smart bulb is the cheapest and needs no electrician, but it is defeated the moment somebody flicks the wall switch off. A smart switch or dimmer module sits behind the existing plate, which keeps the wall working the way everyone expects and makes the whole circuit controllable, including the fixtures you already own.

The third way leaves the fixture alone entirely and makes the circuit smart at the switchboard. Which of the three suits you depends on your wiring, your fittings, and whether there is a neutral at the switch. That is a decision to make after looking at the house, not before.

Light has a temperature. Cool, blue heavy light tells your body it is the middle of the day. Warm amber light tells it the sun is going down. Most homes run one fixed colour all evening, which is why a bright kitchen at ten at night feels subtly wrong without anyone being able to say why.

Tunable lighting follows the sun instead. Cool and bright through the working day, warmer and softer through the evening, and a dim amber at night that lets someone cross the hallway without waking up properly. It is the single change people notice most, and the one they least expect.

A motion sensor detects movement, which means it also detects the absence of movement. That is why the lights go out on people sitting still in public bathrooms. In a home it means the light switching off while you are reading on the couch.

Presence sensing detects that a person is in the room at all, even a stationary one. Rooms light when you enter, stay lit while you occupy them, and go dark once you have genuinely left. Done well, you stop touching switches without ever quite noticing that you stopped.

Outdoor lighting does two jobs at once. It makes the path to the front door safe, and it makes the side of the house an unappealing place to loiter. Tied into the rest of the system it can respond, rather than simply switching on at dusk like a timer.

Lights can come up when a camera sees somebody at the gate, brighten when the alarm trips, run a lived in pattern while you are away, and settle back down when the street is quiet. A floodlight on a timer cannot do any of that.
